Thank you for your interest in volunteering for the Houston Jerk Festival! Volunteers are the backbone of our festival. The difference between a good volunteer program and a great one is that the volunteers have a wonderful time while they are working for the event.
The Houston Jerk Festival depends on hundreds of volunteers of all ages each year, and each plays a very special part in our continued success. Our mission is to celebrate cultural diversity through a festive environment, while celebrating life through song, dance and artistic expression. Our volunteer team understands that mission and works towards its goals by volunteering for one of our committees during the event. This year will bring a whole host of wonderful things and we are so excited that you are considering coming aboard to join in the excitement. Our Festival Explosion will be held Saturday,Sept. 19th and we are excited about your new or renewed interested in being a volunteer.
The Houston Jerk Festival committee hopes that our volunteer team returns from year to year and continually offers positive feedback as well as constructive suggestions on ways to improve the event.

T-SHIRT
Every volunteer receives an Official Houston Jerk Festival Volunteer T-shirt. This shirt must be worn while you are working at the Jerk Festival. Please do not make any alterations to your T-shirt while you are volunteering for HJF.
TRAINING
TRAINING
All volunteers, new and returning, must attend one of the training meetings held weeks prior to the Jerk Festival. These meetings provide you with all the necessary details of the Caribbean Festival. Things change every year and it is vital that you know the new information. Volunteer Training date and location will be sent to you with your confirmation.
MEALS & BEVERAGES
Volunteers will be offered a meal and beverages before, on break or after their shift.
HOSPITALITY
Our main responsibility is to provide a high level of hospitality and attend to the needs of festival VIPs acting as their main contact for information as well as provide ongoing refreshments. All in all, our goal is to create an all-around positive experience for all of the artists, judges and VIPs.

There are two shifts available:
Shift 1: 10:00 AM – 4:00 PM
Shift 2: 5:00 PM - 11:00 PM
We do our best to accommodate your requested area(s) and shift(s) so please get your selections in early. Please make 2 choices.
1) Drink Ticket Sales Shift 1: 12 noon - 5:00 pm Shift 2: 5:00 pm - 10:00 pm
2) VIP tent Shift 1: 12 noon - 5:00 pm Shift 2: 5:00 pm - 10:00 pm
3) Entrance Gate Shift 1: 11:00am- 5:00 pm Shift 2: 5:00 pm - 10:00 pm
4) Parking Control Shift 1: 11:00am - 5:00 pm Shift 2: 5:00 p.m. - 9:00 pm

Fill out the application and indicate where you will work or that you will work anywhere. Your application will be kept on file. When volunteer positions open, you will be contacted by an area coordinator. More than likely this would be in closer to the festival time.
